On September 16, 2017 the National Park Service unveiled the plaque that honors Luigi Del Bianco, officially recognizing him as chief carver of Mount Rushmore. The ceremony took place at Mount Rushmore Visitor Center Museum, and it was 25 years of perseverance - the time it took Luigi's grandson, Lou, to have his grandfather publicly recognized.
In conjunction with this special moment, Lou released his new book "Out of Rushmore's Shadow" which is Luigi Del Bianco's story. The book recounts his grandfather's important past through historical documents that were tucked away in the Library of Congress.
Lou's journey was to fight for recognition for his grandfather's rightful place in history!
