Antonio Meucci & Enrico Fermi

Did you know...

Anything about Italian scientist Antonio Meucci? Born in Florence, he immigrated to Havana, Cuba in 1835 and came to the United States in 1851. He settled in Staten Island, and he invited the telephone before Alexander Bell. Bell was given full credit for the telephone because he patented first a similar version.

Did you ever hear of Enrico Fermi, the most famous scientist in the United States?  He was born in Rome in 1901, came to America in 1939, the year after he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Physics. His greatest contribution was his role in the “Manhattan Project” that produced the first atomic bomb that shortened World War II in 1945. In 1946 the United States government awarded him the Medal of Merit, the highest civilian honor.
